  • We've added a new default theme for Opal called Fracture. This cool grey and white theme is easy on the eye and should be good for general use. Opal: Opal 0.3.4 Released!

Added by Dave Hulihan 101 days ago

0pal 0.3.4 has been released! Here's some of the new features and changes.

New Features

Integrated Blog

  • We've added an Integrated Blog to Opal! Admins can add new blog posts in the Pages Section, or if you don't want a blog in your Opal website, you can disable it in Settings -> Sections.

User Password Recovery

  • Opal now has a tool that lets users recover their password if they forget it. How it works: A password token is sent to their email, they click on the recovery link, and their password is then changed to a randomly-generated password and given to them, so they can log in and change it to something they can remember(or keep the generated password).

SEO Friendly URLs

  • The following models now have SEO-friendly urls: Items, Categories, Users, Pages, and more!

Image Watermarks

  • There's a new Special Effect you can select when uploading an Image for an Item, Watermark. This will overlay a file named watermark.png file in your current theme's images directory(ie: /public/themes/white_square/images/watermark.png) over the image you're adding. If this file is deleted or not present, a text watermark is generated(based on your website's title). We've included a general-use watermark with 0.3.4, but you can replace it with our own custom watermark, too.

Better Logo Swapping

  • We've updated the Main Logo tool, so you can now upload your own logo, or delete the current logo(which will display the Title of your site instead). Admins can access this by going to Settings -> Logo.

Opal: 0.2.0 Released!

Added by Dave Hulihan 282 days ago

0pal 0.2.0 has been released! This is a big release, so there's a lot of changes. Here's some of the major ones:

New Features

New Changeable Item Object List Types

  • Opal now has 4 different Item Object List Types that you can choose from. Item Object lists determine how Item Objects(Images, Reviews, etc.) are displayed on an item's page. Before 0.2.0, Item Objects were just in a linear, one-after-another format. Now you can choose from Expanded(classic), Tabs-Horizontal, Tabs-Vertical, and Accordion. These can be changed in the "List Types" Tab of the Settings Section.

jQuery Support

  • Opal now has jQuery Support! Opal now uses jQuery for transition effects, tabs, ajax, and some other cool functions. We're also using jQuery with FlowPlayer's jQuery Tools for Opal's image galleries, tabs, and other cool effects.
  • We've now added NavLinks that show what category/subcategory you're looking at, and what category an item is in. These help out with navigating opal quite well, and can be disabled in the Settings section, under the Public Tab. (Setting Name: Enable NavLinks)

Visitor-Selectable Item List Types

  • Visitors to an Opal can now change the way items are listed(detailed, photo, and small). This lets anyone choose their favorite list type, but don't Worry! This only affects the visitor's browser, since their preferences are stored in their browser session. This feature can be disabled in the Settings Section, under the Public Tab. (Setting Name: Allow Item List Type Changes from the Public)

Better Item Approval & Privacy

  • We've touched up the way unapproved items and private items are handled by Opal. Unapproved items are now totally hidden from the public(previously, they would show only in lists), and Item Privacy can now be disabled, in the Settings Section, under the Public Tab(Setting Name: Allow Private Items). You can also now see all the Approved, Unapproved, and Private Items in the entire system when you log in as an Admin.

Disallow Item Creation for Regular Users

  • You now prevent regular users from creating Items AT ALL. This is handy for certain setups where you only Admins to add Items, but you still want regular users to be able to leave comments, reviews, etc.

Item Object Settings now Implemented

  • Instead of having a big "Item Objects" Section of the Settings page, each Item Object can have its own set of settings. You can view/edit them on the Item Objects page, in the Admin Section. This also allows more flexibility with custom Item Objects.

Anonymous Comments

  • You can now enable anonymous comments. This lets any visitors leave Comments for an Item, they don't even need an account. This setting can be enabled/disabled in the Settings section for the Comments, on the Item Objects page.

Much More!

  • Those are just the big changes! To see all of the changes in 0.2.0, click here!

Bug Fixes

User Messages Server Actions protected

  • In Opal 0.1.8, there was a security bug that allowed users to mark other user's messages as read/unread, if they really knew what they were doing(and made a custom HTML form). This has been fixed.
